Matsushita to release world's 'smallest, lightest' DSLR camera

OSAKA, Japan - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. will release the world's smallest and lightest digital single-lens reflex camera Lumix G1 on Oct. 31. Matsushita has adopted a new standard, the Micro Four Thirds System, that it has developed jointly with camera maker Olympus Corp. to eliminate the mirror box and dramatically reduce the size and weight of a DSLR, the company said. Matsushita to sell digital cameras under Leica tie-up

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows the LUMIX DMC-LC5, one of the two high-speed digital still cameras (DSC) which Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. will begin marketing Oct. 27 as the first products under an alliance with Leica Camera AG of Germany. The LUMIX DMC-LC5 is equipped with Leica's DC Vario-Summicron lens and can shoot up to eight frames per second. Matsushita said Sept. 17 it has not suggested a retail price for the new product.
