Akira Kurosawa, on location for 'Madadayo'

Japan's internationally acclaimed movie director Akira Kurosawa, who died Sunday at his home in Tokyo at age 88, is shown here giving instructions to his staff while on location in Gotemba, Shizuoka Prefecture, in April 1992 for ''Madadayo,'' the 1993 movie which marked the 50th anniversary of his career as film director. ''Madadayo'' is a story about a poignant relationship between a retired university teacher and his former students.
