Imperial Household Agency officials are pictured carrying two of the so-called Three Sacred Treasures of Japan in Ise, Mie Prefecture, central Japan, on April 17, 2019, while accompanying Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko during their visit to Ise Jingu shrine, their last regional trip before the emperor's abdication at the end of April. The treasures, consisting of the Kusanagi sword and the Yasaka no Magatama jewel, will be kept at the Shinto shrine before they are inherited by the next emperor, the current Crown Prince Naruhito after his enthronement.
