MANILA, Philippines - Go Soeda (L, far court) and Takao Suzuki (R) added a doubles win on Feb. 9 to give Japan an insurmountable 3-0 lead over the Philippines in the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania zone Group I first round. Soeda and Suzuki defeated Eric Taino and Cecil Mamiit 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 in the best-of-five contest at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center, sending Japan into the second round starting April 11 against the winner of the Uzbekistan-India matchup.
