Heavy Storms Cause Severe Damage - Spain

A vehicle carries objects and furniture from homes affected by flooding caused by the DANA, on September 5, 2023, in Villamanta, Madrid, Spain. The isolated depression in high atmospheric levels (DANA) that passed over the Peninsula this weekend has left at least four people dead, another three people still missing, dozens of people evacuated from their homes, road closures, delays and cancellations of numerous railroad lines and air flights. It has also caused serious material damage for which many municipalities are already considering requesting the declaration of an area affected by a Civil Protection emergency. The Civil Guard continues with the search for the 83-year-old man swept away by the current in Villamanta and the middle-aged man swept away with his family by the Alberche river. Karel Malich

Karel Malich

***MARCH 13, 2012 FILE PHOTO*** Sculptor, painter and graphic author Karel Malich, one of the most renowned Czech artists of the second half of the 20th century, died at the age of 95 today, on October 24, 2019, Nikola Bukajova, from the Zdenek Sklenar Gallery that represented Malich for many years, has told CTK. Malich's best known works are his colourful pastels and the objects he made of wires in the early 1970s as a way to record energy processes, a matter he dealt with for most of his artistic life. In his works, his internal experience close to a mystical feeling of his self and his internal light, combines with his knowledge of physics and the works of leading scientists that profoundly changed the mankind's idea of the shape and functioning of the outer space. He previously said that for all his life he strived to create the invisible such as the light and energy streams, and reach harmony and balance in his works. (CTK Photo/Michal Krumphanzl)
