However, the carnival is overshadowed by a shooting on Sunday night that killed one person and injured four others. The shooting took place during the Krewe of Bacchus parade. A man died from his injuries at the hospital. The other victims, a girl, a woman and two men, were in stable condition, according to the New Orleans Police Department. Mardi Gras is French, which means Fat Tuesday. Louisiana was once a French colony, and Mardi Gras is deeply ingrained in the culture of cities throughout the state.
