150th anniversary of Kobe Naval Training Center

KOBE, Japan - Minako Koyama (L), great-great-granddaughter of Katsu Kaishu (1823-1899), a statesman and naval engineer, and Masuo Fujimoto, head of a group of descendents of the men of the Kanrin Maru, Japan's first screw-driven steamship that Katsu captained on a visit to the United States in 1860, attend a ceremony on Aug. 30, 2014 in Kobe, western Japan, marking the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Kobe Naval Training Center.

TOKYO, Japan - Masuo Yamaguchi, president of Sankei Eiga Co. and a sports photographer took part in the filming of "Tokyo Olympiad," a documentary on the 1964 Tokyo Olympics directed by Kon Ichikawa, talks about his memory of the Olympics at his company in Tokyo. He said marathon winner Abebe Bikila of Ethiopia ran some 100 meters outside the National Stadium in the same marathon uniform on the day after his marathon victory at the request of Ichikawa so that the Olympic flame could be filmed along with a running Abebe.

Ex-Defense Agency official gets suspended term

TOKYO, Japan - Masuo Morodomi, a former senior Defense Agency official, walks into the Tokyo District Court on Oct. 12. He was sentenced later to three years in prison, suspended for five years, for causing losses to the state by illegally reducing the refunds to be made by defense contractors for overcharging the agency.
