Emperor, empress leave for 4-nation European tour

TOKYO, Japan - Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko leave Tokyo's Haneda airport for the Czech Republic on July 6 on the first leg of their two-week European tour that will also take them to Poland, Austria and Hungary. The visit, their first to these nations, is also the couple's first overseas trip since they visited the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and Finland in May 2000 and their 10th overall since the emperor ascended the throne in 1989.
