Patrick Bauer, race director of the Marathon des Sables brought together all the competitors and the organization to announce the death of a competitor who suffered a heart attack during the second stage in the dunes of Merzouga. The medical director Fredrique Compagnon specified that despite 40 minutes of resuscitation, the death was noted.
