Relatives remember Japanese submariners in Australian ceremony

SYDNEY, Australia - Kazutomo Ban, 74, (3rd L) and other relatives of two Japanese sailors who died in a midget submarine during an attack on Sydney Harbour during World War II, pose with Neil Roberts (2nd L), the only Australian survivor in the Australian naval vessel Kuttabul which was torpedoed during the attack, during a memorial service in Sydney on Aug. 6. After remaining lost for almost 65 years, the M24 midget submarine of Sub-Lt. Katsuhisa Ban and Petty Officer Mamoru Ashibe was discovered late last year by a group of amateur divers about 5 kilometers off Sydney's coast.

Nostalgic trip to Oita in 1967 Midget begins

OSAKA, Japan - The ''Midget,'' one of Daihatsu Motor Co.'s once-popular models from 1967, leaves the company's headquarters May 12 in Ikeda, Osaka Prefecture, for Oita Prefecture. The vehicle was restored in an effort to rebuild and promote Showa Era townships there.

Discovery Channel to film sunk Japanese sub for TV special+

LOS ANGELES, United States - The Discovery Channel will start shooting undersea footage on Dec. 17 of a sunken World War II-era Japanese midget submarine (in file photo provided by the University of Hawaii) that was recently discovered in waters off Hawaii, for a program that will air in 2003. British midget submarine attack by G. H. Davis

One of the Second World War\'s most daring exploits: the British midget submarine (XE3) attack which gained VCs for Lieutenant Ian Fraser RNR and Leading Seaman James Magennis.
