Powerful typhoon approaching eastern Japan

MINAMIIZU, Japan - High waves strike the coast of Minamiizu in Shizuoka Prefecture, central Japan, on July 25. Typhoon Banyan was located about 550 kilometers west northwest of Chichijima Island in the Ogasawara island chain in the Pacific at 6 p.m. and was heading north at about 30 km per hour. Banyan is expected to close in on the Pacific coast of central and eastern Japan on late July 26.
