China study scholar Nakajima dies

TOKYO, Japan - An April 2009 file photo shows Mineo Nakajima, a scholar in modern Chinese studies, who died of pneumonia at the age of 76 at a hospital in Akita, northeastern Japan, on Feb. 14, 2013. Nakajima was president of Akita International University and formerly president of the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.

TOKYO, Japan - Education Minister Hirofumi Nakasone (L) looks at a report he received from Mineo Nakajima (R), president of the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, on June 30. Nakajima heads an advisory panel aimed at reviewing and revising English-teaching methods in Japanese schools. His report recommended using methods such as singing and playing games to familiarize third graders and up with the English language.
