Major power and gas companies are working to launch and expand new energy-related businesses. Tokyo Electric Power Holdings (HD) will call for tie-ups with major companies that operate chains in order to achieve its goal of installing 10,000 rental terminals for smartphone recharging services by the end of fiscal 2020. Tokyo Gas will establish a new company by the end of FY 2007 to start a new business utilizing storage batteries. As domestic demand for energy is expected to decline in the medium to long term due to a declining population and progress in energy conservation, the company will develop a new source of revenue.
