KAWASAKI, Japan - A vehicle of a right-wing group crashed into the compound of precision instrument maker Mitutoyo Corp. in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, on Oct. 12, injuring a security guard, Kanagawa police said. Former executives of Mitutoyo have been arrested for illegally exporting to Malaysia and Singapore measuring devices that can be converted for use in producing nuclear weapons.

KAWASAKI, Japan - Kazusaku Tezuka, president of high-tech precision instruments maker Mitutoyo Corp., denies at a press conference that the company had knowingly engaged in illegal exports of machinery that may be converted for use in nuclear weapons production. Police raided the company the previous day on suspicion of exporting three-dimension precision-measuring machines, which could be used to make centrifuge machines to enrich uranium for nuclear weapons to China and Thailand around 2001 and 2002 without authorization from the government.
