France, a country which imports two-thirds of its supplies from Ukraine, is anticipating supply problems due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis. Millions of tonnes of sunflower oil destined for European buyers in Ukraine has been trapped, causing a major supply shock. French people have tended to stock up in recent weeks. As a result, the shelves of many supermarkets are empty. The shortage of sunflower oil has also pushed up the price of other vegetable oils around the world.
