A nor'easter moved up the East Coast on Sunday, October 12, causing widespread disruption across the densely populated Northeast with excessive rain, strong winds, and coastal flooding. The storm resulted in road washouts and air travel delays. Due to the severe conditions, the entire state of New Jersey has been under a state of emergency since Saturday night, October 11. On Tuesday, September 30, at least five unoccupied oceanfront homes in Buxton, North Carolina, collapsed into the Atlantic due to rough surf driven by offshore hurricanes Humberto and Imelda. Another home fell the following morning, bringing the total to six this week and 18 on Hatteras Island since 2020. No injuries were reported, but authorities closed parts of Cape Hatteras National Seashore due to dangerous debris.
