Poet Shuntaro Tanikawa dies at 92

Shuntaro Tanikawa, a leading poet in postwar Japan also known for his translations of the U.S. cartoon strip "Peanuts," reads a poem at a Tokyo hotel on Feb. 12, 2015. Tanikawa died on Nov. 13, 2024, aged 92.

NAHA, Japan, Nov. 14 Kyodo - Joel Ehrendreich, the consul general at the U.S. Consulate in Naha, Okinawa, gives an interview to Kyodo News on Nov. 13, 2015, in the city of Urasoe. He called local opposition to a plan to relocate a key U.S. base within the southern island prefecture "just one small part of the larger reconsolidation plan" involving those forces in the country.

KORIYAMA, Japan - Manufacturing of papier-mache sheep is at its peak at an artisan village in Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture, on Nov. 13, 2014, as 2015 falls on the Year of the Sheep. Nearly 2,000 paper sheep are expected to be made by late January 2015.
