Typhoon Saudel brought strong winds and heavy rain to the Amami islands and parts of Okinawa's main island from Tuesday, August 25, through Wednesday, August 26, as it moved northwestward across the East China Sea, cutting power to about 34,000 homes.

Typhoon Dolphin, known in Japan as Typhoon No. 13, moved west near Okinawa's Minamidaito Island on Thursday, August 6, and is expected to approach Okinawa and Amami by Friday, with authorities warning of heavy rain and high waves from Kyushu to Kanto.
