SYDNEY, Australia - Japanese athletes taking part in the upcoming Sydney Paralympic Games arrive at Sydney International Airport on Oct. 14. Some 4,000 athletes from 69 countries will compete in the Oct. 18-29 games, which will see medals awarded in 550 events contested in 18 sports.

SYDNEY, Australia - Three-time Paralympian Daphne Ceeney of Australia cuts the ribbon to open the Sydney Paralympic Games athletes' village on Oct. 11. More than 2,500 Paralympic athletes from 69 countries checked in the village for the Oct. 18-29 Paralympic Games. The Sydney Olympic Games are the first where athletes from both the Olympic and Paralympic Games have been invited to stay under the same roof.
