Researchers from China and the United Kingdom have discovered fossils of a previously unknown eurypterid, more commonly referred to as a sea scorpion, dating back 450 million years to the Ordovician period in east China's Zhejiang Province, the earliest recorded in the country. A joint working group led by the Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology reported the rare eurypterid from Wenchang Formation of Anji County. Scientists discover new trilobite association over 400 mln years ago in SW China

STORY: Scientists discover new trilobite association over 400 mln years ago in SW China DATELINE: May 14, 2022 LENGTH: 00:00:55 LOCATION: KUNMING, China CATEGORY: SOCIETY SHOTLIST: 1. various of fossils of trilobites discovered by scientists STORYLINE: Chinese scientists have documented a new trilobite association during the Late Ordovician in Zhenxiong County, southwest China's Yunnan Province. The discovery by researchers from Peking University, an institute under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Xi'an Geological Survey Center was recently published in Palaeoworld. According to Wei Xin, one of the researchers, the trilobite association includes 17 species of 15 genera, among which four species are new. Scientists said that the discovery will provide a great opportunity for researchers to investigate the marine organisms in southern China during the Late Ordovician. Wei said that based on the distribution of trilobite species, it is reasonable to infer that a migration event took place in sout
