OITA, Japan - Photo shows renowned archaeologist Mitsuo Kagawa, a professor emeritus at Beppu University in Oita Prefecture who was found hanged March 9 at his home in the town of Hinode in the prefecture. In 1962, Kagawa led excavations in Oita's Hijiridaki cave, the only grotto in Japan where the team claimed ancient human bones and stone tools from the Paleolithic era were found together. In January, a weekly magazine reported the findings were allegedly faked.
