HIROSHIMA, Japan - Two men work March 6 to clean the monument under the arch-shaped cenotaph at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park which was found vandalized with paint the previous night. The cenotaph is dedicated to the 220,000 victims of the 1945 U.S. atomic bombing of the western Japanese city.

HIROSHIMA, Japan - Hiroshima municipal government office staff begin updating on June 21 a list of people confirmed to have died in, or as a result of, the 1945 atomic bomb attack. Books in which their names are recorded will be added at the Aug. 6 peace ceremony to 73 which carry the names of 212,116 victims and are under the arch-shaped cenotaph dedicated to them in the Peace Memorial Park.
