Experts whom CTK has addressed expect the bark beetle to not massively spread spread throughout the Sumava Mountains and hit trees in maximally 15 percent of the national park's territory. But the South Bohemia regional office claims that the bark beetle will destroy trees in half of the national park area in the next few years. The office says this will happen because about half of the park's area will fall in two zones in which either no human intervention is possible or trees may be cut down only rarely under the new zoning plan.
