Toyota mulls closing Prizm assembly lines in U.S.

NAGOYA, Japan - Toyota Motor Corp. is considering closing assembly lines for the Prizm model at the Fremont, CA plant of New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. (NUMMI), a joint venture with General Motors Corp. of the United States, due to weak sales of the model in the U.S., company officials said in Nagoya on Aug. 14. About 45,000 Prizm subcompact cars were assembled last year.
