Current Toshiba "SCiB" products

Current Toshiba "SCiB" products

Toshiba is planning to commercialize the next generation of its proprietary SCiB lithium-ion rechargeable batteries in fiscal 2020 or later, with an energy density that is more than 50% higher than that of conventional products. The company has already developed a prototype cell at its research laboratory and will establish mass production technology. While SCiBs are strong in terms of longevity and fast charging performance, energy density, which leads to higher battery capacity, has been an issue. The company aims to expand its business by focusing on hybrid vehicles (HV), railroads and stationary applications. However, in the lithium-ion battery market as a whole, major manufacturers in Japan, China and South Korea are competing with each other. Toshiba's strategy is to target a "niche top" market by narrowing down the target market because price competition is not in Toshiba's favor. Prague must prove its proprietary right to Czech Art Nouveau artist Alfons Mucha's Slav Epic paintings through acquisitive prescription, Prague 1 District Court ruled on January 8 ,2020, in Prague, Czech Republic, and adjourned the proceedings until April. In his lawsuit against the city, the painter's relative, John Mucha, pictured, claims that Prague never became the owner of the cycle of paintings since it did not fulfil the author's prerequisite of building a special exhibition space for them. Alfons Mucha (1860-1939) painted his Slav Epic cycle with motifs from the legends and more or less remote history of Slavonic nations in 1911-1928. The paintings' size ranges from about 4x5 to 6x8 metres. (CTK Photo/Katerina Sulova)
