LISNE, UKRAINE - SEPTEMBER 6, 2023 - An American Pygmy water lives at Feldman Ecopark recovering from Russian shelling, Lisne village, Kharkiv Region, northeastern Ukraine. The regional landscape park, which offered both animal care and therapy for children with special needs, was largely destroyed during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Six people - both workers and a volunteer - and several animals were killed in the shelling. Moreover, Russians stole vegetables intended for animals. Approximately, 6,000 animals were evacuated from the park.

Public gets first look at baby hippopotamus born at Ueno zoo

TOKYO, Japan - A baby pygmy hippopotamus (L), born at the Ueno Zoo in Tokyo, makes its first public appearance on May 16. Born April 24, the female -- which weighed 11.5 kilograms as of May 6 -- is the offspring of an 11-year-old female named Ebony, which came from a U.S. zoo, and Showhei, aged 10, which hails from a zoo in Nagoya, central Japan.
