Erotic Roman Mosaic Stolen By Wehrmacht Officer Returns to Pompeii - Italy

An erotic Ancient Roman mosaic stolen by a Wehrmacht officer in 1944 and given to a German citizen was returned to its rightful home at Pompeii, Italy in a ceremony by Italy's crack art cops on July 15, 2025. The German army captain, responsible for the military supply chain in Italy during World War II, handed over the mosaic of a pair of lovers in an erotic scene to a German citizen whose family have now returned it thanks to the Carabinieri of the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit (TPC) of Rome. The work of great cultural interest dates between the mid-last century BC and the 1st century AD. Repatriated from Germany through a diplomatic expedition, the mosaic most likely decorated the floor of a private room reserved for the master of the house. The work is likely from the Vesuvian area, perhaps from a villa in the Pompeian suburbs. The paramilitary personnel of the Cultural Heritage Protection Command in Rome, realizing they were dealing with a work of extraordinary cultural interest and, among other thin

China: Sandstorm Obscures Visibility At Mingsha Mountain And Crescent Spring

A fierce sandstorm filled the sky with blowing sand and a blanket of gray clouds, drastically reducing visibility at Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Moon Spring in Jiuquan, Gansu on June 29, 2024. The swirling sands made it nearly impossible for visitors to see each other's faces, encapsulating the harsh and unpredictable nature of the desert environment. The filmer came to this scenic spot to watch an open-air concert in the desert, without realizing that the weather was not on their side.

File photo dated April 8, 2024 shows Michelin CEO Florent Menegaux President de Michelin during a trilateral meeting on the European industrial policy in Meudon, outside Paris, France. After realizing that the minimum wage in its home country left some workers at breaking point, French tire-maker Michelin has taken matters into its own hands to give employees a hefty pay raise. Michelin is rolling out its own living wage to its 132,000 employees, the company said in a press release shared with Fortune and first reported by French publication Le Figaro. The 134-year-old group, which makes heavy-duty tires for construction and freight-handling companies, has set living wages for employees based on their location to correlate with living costs. The calculation for the living wage was also made based on what employees needed to provide for their family’s “essential needs.” Photo by Jean-Bernard Vernier/JBV News/ABACAPRESS.COM
