TOKYO, Japan - Ricoh Co. said Dec. 9 it has developed a printer-photocopier capable of automatically blocking unauthorized duplication of classified documents. If a person tries to make a photocopy of documents with masked patterns on the new copier, it will recognize the patterns and produce blank gray paper instead of duplicating the documents, the company said.

TOKYO, Japan - Yahoo Japan Corp., operator of Japan's top Internet portal site Yahoo! Japan, said July 18 it has added a new technology to its auction site (photo) that allows users to search for images quickly on the Internet. It is the first time that an image search function has been introduced on Internet auction sites, the company said. The new technology, developed by office automation equipment maker Ricoh Co., can search for images that have similar patterns, colors and other characteristics among vast amounts of images on the Internet.
