The flat race route is widely accepted as the fastest in New Zealand. It is also very scenic and takes in iconic Christchurch areas such as Hagley Park, Avon River, Canterbury Museum, Cambridge Terrace, Oxford Terrace and Town Hall. More than 4,000 runners signed up for the event, which featured marathon, half-marathon and 10 km run. There were also kids races and wheelchair marathons.
