President Roh Tae-woo of South Korea visited Japan as a state guest. He attended a welcome event at the State Guest House in Akasaka. President Roh's visit to Japan was postponed due to Emperor Showa's illness, and this was the first visit to Japan in six years since former President Chun Doo-hwan.
