Sculptor's son discovers characters written by young Zhou Enlai

TOKYO, Japan - This message written in Chinese was found in a sketchbook belonging to Japanese sculptor Ryumon Yasuda. His son, Haruhiko, said Sept. 16 that he discovered the sketchbook in a storeroom in his home. The content suggests a written dialogue between former Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai (1898-1976) and sculptor Ryumon Yasuda in Japan 81 years ago.

TOKYO, Japan - This sketch of former Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai (1898-1976) was made in Japan 81 years ago, artist Haruhiko Yasuda said Sept. 16. Yasuda said he found the sketch in his home in Kanagawa Prefecture, and that the sketch was drawn by his father, the late Ryumon Yasuda, a sculptor. It was drawn when Zhou was a 19-year-old student living in Tokyo. Zhou is remembered in Japan for his efforts to help restore diplomatic relations in 1972.
