SAYAMA, Japan - Police investigators on Nov. 23 surround the wreckage of an Air Self-Defense Force (ASDF) T-33 training jet that crashed the day before by the riverbank in Sayama, Saitama Prefecture, just 3.6 kilometers north of the ASDF Iruma base. The crash severed power lines, blacking out some 800,000 households in Tokyo and Saitama.

TOKYO, Japan - Photo, taken from a helicopter, shows a commuter train on the Seibu Shinjuku Line which collided with a tractor-trailer and derailed at a crossing in Sayama, Saitama Prefecture, at around 5:25 p.m. on Oct. 12. Seventeen passengers were injured. The train was bound for Honkawagoe, Saitama, from Shinjuku, Tokyo.
