Farmer charges EV with solar power in Miyagi Pref.

SENDAI, Japan - Atsushi Sabusawa, a farmer in Iwanuma, Miyagi Prefecture, charges an electric vehicle with electricity generated from a solar power facility on Feb. 3, 2014. Sabusawa is cooperating with an experimental project in the northeastern Japanese city to store solar powered energy in electric cars and use it for farming based on the concept of local production for local consumption.

Univ. of Tokyo installs tidal power devices off Shiogama

SHIOGAMA, Japan - The University of Tokyo's Institute of Industrial Science installs a tidal power generation device in coastal waters of Sabusawa Island, Shiogama, Miyagi Prefecture, northeastern Japan, on Nov. 18, 2014. Two devices were installed for a demonstration experiment to provide electricity for the fisheries association of the island starting in February 2015.
