Cherry blossoms at Imperial Palace

TOKYO, Japan - Photo taken from a Kyodo News helicopter on April 4, 2014, shows a promenade flanked by cherry trees at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. The Inui promenade was opened to the public for the first time the same day, in commemoration of Emperor Akihito's 80th birthday last December, in time for viewing cherry blossoms in full bloom. The Inui Gate (front) and the Sakashita Gate (top, C) can be seen.

Emperor Hirohito passed away from duodenal cancer at 6:33 a.m. on January 7, 1964. Director-General Fujimori of the Imperial Household Agency and Chief Cabinet Secretary Obuchi make simultaneous announcements at the Imperial Household Agency and the Prime Minister's Office. From Showa era to Heisei era. Electric bulletin board announcing the Emperor's demise, scenes of the accession ceremony at the Imperial Palace, people filling out forms at the register at the Sakashita Gate in front of the Imperial Palace, scenes of an extraordinary cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister's Office, Chief Cabinet Secretary Obuchi announcing the new era name Heisei, and scenes of the accession ceremony. Sleeping Cat Carving,Toshogu Shrine,Nikko

A carving of a sleeping cat adorns a platform near the ceiling of the Sen Gate at the rear approach. The cat sleeping in the peony is said to be by the maestro Hidari Kangoro. Sakashitamon gate of the imperial palace and threefold turret in southeast of main building

The Sakashita Gate of Edo Castle can be seen to the left over the moat, and to the right is the three-tiered Tatsumi turret in the castle tower.
