PYONGYANG, North Korea - A U.S. humanitarian aid shipment arrives at Pyongyang airport on the evening of Sept. 3, 2011, to help recovery following major flooding in North Korea in the summer. STORY: Samaritan pilgrims celebrate Passover on Mount Gerizim DATELINE: April 22, 2022 LENGTH: 00:02:41 LOCATION: NABLUS, Palestine CATEGORY: CULTURE SHOTLIST: 1. Samaritan people celebrating the Passover on Mount Gerizim in Nablus city STORYLINE: The Samaritan community in the West Bank started to celebrate the Passover on Mount Gerizim in Nablus on Thursday. The celebrations will last for seven days. The Samaritans are a small sect of about 880 people. Half of their community lives near Mount Gerizim, south of Nablus, while the other half in Holon, Israel. For the first six days, the Samaritans usually gather at a synagogue in their neighborhood on Mount Gerizim. On the seventh day, male pilgrims, in traditional white dresses, flock to the top of the mountain hours before sunrise. As tradition goes, the members of the sect also exchange visits on the Passover, and eat fruits and sweets to celebrate this occasion. Mount Gerizim is a sacred place for the Samaritan sect that believes and performs its

S. Korean student Samaritan had grad school dreams

TOKYO - Lee Su Hyon (photo taken on Mt. Fuji climb) was contemplating returning to South Korea this summer to attend graduate school after a year and a half of language studies in Japan. But the 26-year-old was struck and killed by a commuter train on Tokyo's Yamanote loop line Jan. 26 as he and a Japanese photographer tried to rescue a drunken man who had fallen onto the tracks.
