Super Typhoon Ragasa, locally called Nando, battered northern Philippines with torrential rain and strong winds, causing floods, deadly landslides, and widespread destruction. The storm killed at least nine people: seven from a capsized fishing boat off Cagayan province, one in a landslide in Benguet, and one who drowned in La Union. Philippines: Super Typhoon Ragasa Slams Northern Islands, Over 10,000 Evacuated 5

Super Typhoon Ragasa (Nando) struck the northern Philippines on Monday, September 22, with winds up to 285 km/h, forcing over 10,000 people to evacuate across northern and central Luzon, according to the government. The storm damaged homes, schools, and power lines, and led to closures of schools and government offices, including in Manila. Despite slight weakening, authorities warned of life-threatening storm surges, floods, and landslides.

US: Magnitude 4.3 Earthquake Jolts San Francisco Bay Area

A magnitude 4.3 earthquake struck the San Francisco Bay Area shortly before 3 a.m. Monday, with its epicenter about a mile east of Berkeley. The quake was felt across a wide area, including San Francisco, Sausalito, Santa Rosa, and Santa Cruz. About 23,000 people reported feeling the shaking. No injuries were reported, and damage was minor, including broken windows and fallen merchandise. BART trains experienced delays due to safety inspections. Berkeley also experienced a magnitude 3.0 earthquake later that evening.
