Portsmouth Peace Treaty original text

TOKYO, Japan - Photo taken Oct. 6, 2011, at the Diplomatic Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in Tokyo shows part of the original Portsmouth Peace Treaty text. The treaty was signed by the Japanese and Russian envoys at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the state of Maine, the United States, on Sept. 5, 1905, formally ending the 1904-1905 Russo-Japanese War. The signatures of Japan's Jutaro Komura and Kogoro Takahira are seen in the photo.

Japan-America Society of New Hampshire

PORTSMOUTH, United States - Japanese Consul General in Boston Takeshi Hikihara (L) notifies Charles Doleac, president of the Japan-America Society of New Hampshire, that he will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, from the Japanese government in recognition of his contributions to promoting friendship between Japan and the United States, during a ceremony held Sept. 5, 2011 at a hotel in suburban Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The Treaty of Portsmouth was signed near Portsmouth in September 1905, ending the Japan-Russo war.

Portsmouth fetes 105th anniversary of end to Russo-Japanese War

PORTSMOUTH, United States - North Church in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, rings the bell on Sept. 5, 2010, in commemoration of the 105th anniversary of the signing of a peace treaty named after the city that formally ended the 1904-1905 Russo-Japanese War through the mediation of then U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt.
