The new Nagasaki Custom House completed at Umegasaki in September 1890. In 1899, the districts of Suo and Nagato (present-day Yamaguchi Prefecture) came under its jurisdiction. The Nagasaki-maru and Shanghai-maru began service between Japan and China in 1923.
