AmazingAnhui | New business forms advance development and protection of traditional fish-shaped lantern

(240519) -- HUANGSHAN, May 19, 2024 (Xinhua) -- Wang Shengjuan, a county-level intangible cultural heritage inheritor, makes a fish-shaped lantern at a workshop in Wangmantian Village, Shexian County of Huangshan City, east China's Anhui Province, May 10, 2024. In Xitou Township of Shexian County in east China's Anhui Province, local villagers have the tradition to make fish-shaped lanterns to pray for harvest and good fortune for over six centuries. While protecting the intangible cultural heritage, Xitou Township has worked on expanding new business forms in recent years. Fish-shaped lanterns of diverse sizes and materials have been made for display, performance, and sale. Other business development including study tour themed on intangible cultural heritage, related cultural and creative products and lantern-making experience also emerged. (Xinhua/Fu Tian)
