Int'l snowball fight tournament begins in Hokkaido

SOBETSU, Japan - Snowball-fighters hide behind snow 'shields' during an international snowball fight tournament in the Hokkaido town of Sobetsu on Feb. 22. Some 1,900 people from 14 foreign countries, most of whom are residents of Hokkaido, took part in the 15th Annual Mt. Showa Shinzan International Yukigassen (snowball fight) contest.

Owaku-dani Valley

Owakudani is the place where Chuo-Shinzan of Hakone Volcano erupted. A considerable amount of hydrogen sulfide gas is emitted. Thus, normal plants cannot survive. The Hakone Road

This photo depicts the Old Hakone Highway and the mountains of Hakone viewed from the mountain nearer Yumoto than Hatajuku Post Town. The winding old Tokaido Highway runs through the foot of Mt.
