TOKYO, Japan, April 10 Kyodo - Japanese film director Nagisa Oshima enters the Tokyo District Court on Dec. 21, 1977, for the first hearing of his trial related to a book on his erotic art film "In the Realm of the Senses." Oshima, along with Kazui Takemura, president of San-Ichi Shobo Publishing Inc., was charged with distributing obscene materials contained in the book, including photographs of sexually explicit scenes from the 1976 film and its script.

A mahjong museum, with a collection that includes the mahjong pieces China's ''Last Emperor'' Pu Yi is believed to have used, opens April 10 in the town of Misaki, Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo. The museum was established by Tokyo-based publisher Take Shobo, and displays a collection of about 3,000 mahjong sets from 20 countries around the world, including Japan, China, the United States, France and Vietnam.

TOKYO, Japan - Kimbusenji Temple in the Yoshino district in Nara Prefecture was founded by En no Gyoja in late 7th century and expanded in the Jogan era (859-877) by Shingon monk Shobo. A government advisory panel decided Nov. 17 to propose three Japanese cultural sites, including the temple and shrines, for the World Heritage List of the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
