Missing sacred swords of Todaiji found after 1,250 yrs

The temple said the same day that two swords found under the Buddha in the Meiji era have been identified as sacred swords that had been missing for some 1,250 years since around 760 after Empress Komyo, the wife of Emperor Shomu who built the Buddha, dedicated them along with other items to the temple.

The temple said the same day that two swords found under the Buddha in the Meiji era have been identified as sacred swords that had been missing for some 1,250 years since around 760 after Empress Komyo, the wife of Emperor Shomu who built the Buddha, dedicated them along with other items to the temple.

Traces of 8th century parliament building unearthed

OTSU, Japan - Archeologists say Nov. 22 holes excavated in the town of Shigaraki in Shiga Prefecture, western Japan, indicate the existence of an eighth century parliament building -- about 92 meters long and 12 meters wide, inside what is believed to have been a palace complex of Emperor Shomu.
