The dolphin was found stranded in the shallow water near a pier in Changjiang Li Autonomous County at around 1 p.m. on Friday. Staff from the county's fire department and local professional marine rescuers arrived soon and moved the dolphin to the shore. The dolphin is 2 meters long and weighs about 200 kg. It suffered cuts by reefs but no fatal wound, said the rescuers. After three hours of rescue and treatment, the dolphin was transported to about 18.5 km off the coastline and then released into the sea. JCG boats have been unable to get closer to the ship because it lies in shallow waters near the shore.

Following the breakdown of negotiations to seek recompense for the Namamugi Incident in September 1862, and having been surprised by cannon fire from the shore, ships of the British Royal Navy bombard the Japanese town of Kagoshima. The ships involved were HMS Euryalus; HMS Pearl; HMS Coquette; HMS Argus; HMS Perseus; HMS Racehorse and the gunboat HMS Havoc. The clash resulted in more British than Japanese casualties, the town having been evacuated, and the British stopped short of landing troops. The incident became known as the Anglo-Satsuma War.
