The cedar trees in Hakone and a man in military uniform. From the glass negative, it is known to be a photo taken by Shima Shukichi who owned a photo studio in Miyanaoshita from 1878. An electric or telephone wire can be seen. The scene around the Dogashima valley from the opposite side of Miyanoshita. The title shows that it was photographed by Shima Shukichi who started his business in 1878 in Miyanoshita. The central river below the falls is Haya River, and to the lower right of the falls is Taiseikan. Shirabe Falls in Dogashima hot springs, and the family of Shima Shukichi assembled before the bridge in front of the falls. The child in the centre of the bridge is Issungi Sentaro, grandson of Motokichi, the elder brother of Shima Shukichi. The Shima Photo Studio was initially called Edoya in Dogashima Hot Springs.
