Typhoon Jangmi brought heavy rain and damaging winds to Okinawa and Amami islands, southern Japan, as it approached Okinawa's main island on Monday, June 1. All flights to and from Naha Airport were cancelled, while public transport, schools, and businesses were also shut for the day.

China: Tourists and Locals Rescue Yaks from Mud Pit in Qinghai

In Qinghai, China, tourists and locals joined forces with an excavator operator to rescue four yaks stuck in deep mud on September 30, 2025. After spotting the trapped animals, the tourists alerted a herdsman and enlisted help from a nearby construction site. Working for nearly an hour, they freed all four yaks safely. The herdsman said the rescue prevented losses of over RMB 40,000.

US: Horse-Drawn Carriages Collide in Central Park, Drivers Taken to Hospital

On Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, two horse-drawn carriages collided in Central Park near the East 60th Street entrance, sending both drivers to the hospital. Police said the drivers were safe and the horses were not seriously injured.

Japan: Large Black Sheet Installed At Popular Mount Fuji Photo Spot To Block View

The Japanese town of Fujikawaguchiko installed a large black screen on Tuesday, May 21, in front of a Lawson convenience store in Yamanashi to block the view of Mt. Fuji in response to visitors' unruly behavior such as illegally crossing or blocking road to get a good shot of the iconic mountain. The popular view from the sidewalk opposite the store gave the appearance of Mt. Fuji perched on the roof of the store. In this video, Mount Fuji is hidden by clouds, but the already set up large black curtain can be seen.
