Exhibition of Ukrainian artist Liubov Panchenko in Kyiv

KYIV, UKRAINE - FEBRUARY 12, 2025 - Fashion sketches are displayed at the Universe of Love, the first retrospective exhibition of Ukrainian visual artist and fashion designer Liubov Panchenko, at the Museum of the History of Kyiv, capital of Ukraine. The artist belonged to the Sixtiers, a group of artists in the 1960s who revived Ukrainian culture during the Khrushchev Thaw. During the occupation of Bucha by Russian forces at the beginning of Russias full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Liubov Panchenko was forced to remain inside her house for a month without food. She was admitted to the hospital in Kyiv after Russian troops left Bucha, but the artist never recovered and died on April 30, 2022, aged 84. (Photo by Kirill Chubotin/Ukrinform)

Original pictures for early Disney animation films found

CHIBA, Japan - Some 250 original pictures used to make early Walt Disney animation films were found stored in a warehouse in Chiba University, the university said on Dec. 19. The items include celluloid and background pictures as well as sketches.

Photo exhibition of ancient Korean murals to open in Tokyo

TOKYO, Japan - A ceremony was held Aug. 12 to mark the opening of an exhibition in Tokyo of photos and sketches of ancient murals from North Korea's first UNESCO World Heritage site in a Pyongyang suburb. The exhibition will open to the public Aug. 13 and run through Sept. 4. Photos were taken by a team of Kyodo News photographers last year.

Filigree Mosaic craft, a traditional Chinese aulic handicraft dating back to the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476BC), uses metal such as gold and silver to fold artwork inlaid with gemstone or pearl. It is also called fine gold craft as it usually uses spun gold as thin as 0.16 millimeters to form various shapes, and was listed as one of China's national intangible cultural heritages in 2008. Gu Guoqiang, born in 1994, fell in love with the craft seven years ago during his study in Beijing for restoration of cultural relics. Fascinated by a filigree mosaic work of his master, he returned to his hometown Chongqing and took provincial-level master of arts and crafts Li Changyi as his new master.
