Statue unveiled to mark centennial of novelist Dazai's birth

GOSHOGAWARA, Japan - Sonoko Tsushima (3rd from R), the 68-year-old daughter of novelist Osamu Dazai (1909-1948), attends a ceremony to unveil a life-size bronze statue of Dazai in his hometown of Goshogawara, Aomori Prefecture, on June 19. Several hundred fans and guests attended the ceremony to mark the centennial of Dazai's birth.

Beautician Suzuki left 8.8 bil. yen in assets to daughter

TOKYO, Japan - Diet and beauty adviser Sonoko Suzuki (file photo), who died last December at age 68 of pneumonia, left some 8.8 billion yen in taxable assets. The asset figures were released on Nov. 20 on the list of major local inheritance taxpayers by the Itabashi Taxation Office in Tokyo, in accordance with the Accessions Tax Law.
