Sousuke Uno

Named Japan's 75th prime minister on June 3, 1989 following the resignation of Noboru Takeshita over a stocks-for-favors scandal. Uno resigned after only 69 days. Born Aug. 27, 1922, died May 19, 1998.

Toshiki Kaifu

Toshiki Kaifu

Born on Jan. 2, 1931 in Aichi Prefecture. In 1960, at the age of 29, Kaifu became Japan's youngest lawmaker when he was elected to the House of Representatives from Aichi Prefecture. Kaifu became Japan's 19th postwar prime minister on Aug. 10, 1989, succeeding scandal-hit Sousuke Uno, who held the post for just over two months. Kaifu held the premiership until Nov. 5, 1991.
