Yumi Suzuki, one of the plaintiffs who sued the Japanese government over forced sterilization under the now-defunct eugenics protection law, speaks at a press conference after meeting with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, who offered an apology, at the prime minister's office in Tokyo on Jan. 17, 2025. The Supreme Court ruled the law unconstitutional in July 2024 and ordered the government to pay damages.
