Japanese researcher explains website for whistleblowers

TOKYO, Japan - Masayuki Hatta, a full-time lecturer at Surugadai University in Saitama Prefecture in eastern Japan, explains about the "whistleblowing.jp" website he developed at a press conference in Tokyo on Dec. 19, 2014. The site, aimed at starting operations in 2015, uses the Tor anonymity software to protect the identity of a whistleblower and passes on the information in encrypted form to registered journalists and news media of a leaker's choice.

A shrine

Kanda Myojin Shrine prospered under the protection of the Tokugawa Shogunate as a guardian deity of Edo. Taira Masakado is enshrined here as the Oanamuchi-no-mikoto deity. The shrine moved to its current location (present-day Sotokanda 2-chome) from Surugadai in 1616. It was renamed Kanda Shinto Shrine in 1872. The Kanda Festival, one of the three major festivals in Tokyo, is held here every other year, formerly on September 15, now in May. What can be seen is Kanda Surugadai. The round roof of the Nikolai Do (completed in 1891) can be seen clearly in the centre of the background. Kudanzaka slope and a lighthouse

The steep slope to the Kojimachi area along the inner moat of the Imperial Palace from the direction of Kanda. The slope was made less steeper at the time the road was restored after the Great Kanto Earthquake. A lighthouse was built in 1871 as a landmark for fishing boats coming into Tokyo Bay.
